In particular, through its initiatives to generate, support and promote the employability of people at risk of social exclusion.

On the occasion of the celebration of its 25th anniversary, Fundación Orange also recognised, within this framework of celebration and synergies between third sector organisations, Fundación Ana Bella, for its commitment to helping abused women; and Fundación Don Bosco for its socio-educational projects for the socio-occupational integration of young people.

The president of Fundación Magtel, Auxiliadora López Magdaleno said that “it is an honour for us to be able to support this essential task which contributes to ensuring that no one gets left behind in the path of digitalisation, something which is the key for the present and the future”.

Auxiliadora López Magdaleno emphasised that, both the Board of Trustees of the Fundación Magtel and all those who work and form part of the team of this entity, “see this recognition as an impetus to move forward, with even more enthusiasm if possible”.

In addition, during the meeting, a round table discussion was held in which  experts debated the possible applications of technology to reduce the digital divide in the most vulnerable groups or those with greater communication difficulties.

The colloquium was attended, in addition to the director of Fundación Magtel, Adrián Fernández Cárdenas the operational director of the Fundación Ana Bella, María Gracia Prada the general director of Fundación Don Bosco and president of Escuelas de Segunda Oportunidad (E2O), Ignacio Fernández Cárdenas, Ignacio Vazquez and the General Director of Autismo Sevilla, Marcos Zamora.

25 years promoting initiatives

The Fundación Orange is celebrating 25 years of promoting the digital skills of people at risk of exclusion, joining forces with other entities in Andalusia to promote, in particular, initiatives aimed at young people with difficulties adapting to the traditional education system, women in vulnerable situations and those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Employment Agency, Fundación Magtel is developing two new training courses on the installation of FTTH for 30 people in Madrid.

The initiatives are being carried out from today by this entity in collaboration with Caritas Madrid and Fundación Orange in the first case, and in the second, with the Agencia de Empleo de Madrid and Fundación Orange.

These actions comprise a total of 285 hours each (185 hours of theoretical training and 100 hours of professional practice). The two courses will be held in morning and afternoon shifts respectively, and have a capacity of 15 participants each.

The objective is to facilitate the approach to the labour market through the position of home fibre optic installer with the acquisition of competences and skills and, in particular, by providing the students with the basic notions for the development of the professional activity.

The initiative represents a unique opportunity to train in the telecommunications sector by gaining the skills involved in the assembly and installation of a fibre optic telecommunications infrastructure.

There is currently a high demand for professionals in this field in the market.

Fundación Magtel was present at the inauguration ceremony of the physical headquarters of the “Orange Digital Center carried out by Felipe VI. This is a free and open access technology centre specialising in digital skills for all citizens. These facilities have specialised training for vulnerable groups such as young people and women at risk of exclusion, or people with autistic spectrum disorders.

In addition to H.M. the King, the inauguration ceremony was presided over by the President of Orange Spain and President of the Fundación Orange in Spain, Gervais Pellissier and the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, José Luis Escrivá together with other authorities and representatives of Fundación Orange beneficiary entities. Francisco Javier Mateo, fibre optic teacher at the Fundación Magtel, gave a demonstration of a FTTH installation to the delegation when they toured the facilities.

Fundación Magtel contributes to the generation of job opportunities among vulnerable groups or those at risk of social exclusion through training and internship programmes. Every year, the organisation runs free courses related to the telecommunications and renewable energy sectors, which currently have a high degree of employability. Over the last ten years, the institution has trained more than more than 890 people and at least four more programmes are planned for this year.

Together with Fundación Orange, training courses have been given on the installation of fibre optics to the home (FTTH), such as the one carried out at the  Centro de Formación de Oficios de Usera, in Madrid as well as those carried out in Linares, Almeria and Seville in previous editions.

Physical space for this project

Madrid is the first Spanish city to have a physical space to develop the educational project “Orange Digital Center”. It will be a meeting point for citizens who want to develop their digital skills, as well as for entrepreneurs and startups.

“Orange Digital Center” is an educational platform that seeks to make digital innovation accessible to groups such as young people, women, people with autism and entrepreneurs. It is oriented towards education and digital inclusion it aims to be a place to train the most vulnerable social groups in digital skills, as well as a meeting point for entrepreneurs, families and members of the educational community. The contents are articulated around four training itineraries (Responsible use of ICT, Digital Inclusion, Climate Change and Entrepreneurship).

These courses are increasing the amount of vulnerable people entering the labour market

The Magtel Foundation, alongside the Fundación Secretariado Gitano (Gypsy Secretariat Foundation) and the Orange Foundation, has completed the fibre optic home installer training course in Almeria. After three months of theoretical and practical learning, the course has been completed and the closing event celebration has been held at the Social Integration centre “Los Almendros”.

The event was presented by Maria Dolores Ramon Alonso, the Provincial Coordinator of the Fundación Secretariado Gitano. This was followed by a speech from Raul Maldonado Blanes, the Regional Director of Andalusia and Extremadura’s Institutional Relations at the Orange Foundation. Magtel’s Javier Vílchez, director of education, and Carlos Luque, manager of the training programme, were both in attendance.

Next, FSG-Almeria’s employment prospector Ana Martinez Angulo, accompanied by two participants of the training course, closed the speeches. Finally, the diplomas were awarded.

Incorporation into the labour market

Each training course run by the Magtel Foundation sees an increase in the numbers of people in vulnerable situations entering the labour market. We are also training professionals in a sector where demand far exceeds supply.

In addition to the training programme developed in Almeria, similar training programmes have been held in different locations across the country. One such example is Linares’ FTTH course, which is scheduled to be completed this week.

Participants have had the opportunity to both learn the theory (185 hours) and take part in work experience (100 hours). The theory was learnt in the classroom-workshop and consisted of content related to the configuration of installations, network equipment, and being able to carry out tests, measurements, soldering and simulations of installations. Following this training, they began work-experience with companies in the sector alongside a professional installer.

The Trade Training Centre in Usera, under the Madrid City Council, has hosted the presentation of diplomas to students participating in the two editions of the “Fibre Optic Installer” course, an initiative promoted by the Madrid Employment Agency and the Orange Foundation. This programme facilitates the incorporation of unemployed people into the labour market, particularly in innovative sectors such as telecommunications due to the existing demand for professionals specialised in the installation of new networks.

The event coincided with the completion of the programme’s theoretical training and was chaired by the representative of the Department of Economy, Innovation and Employment, Miguel Angel Redondo. He was accompanied by the director general of the Employment Agency, Jose Maria Meneses Castillo, the manager of the Orange Foundation’s Education Programmes, Angelica Bautista Gris, and the Magtel Foundation’s project manager, Javier Vilchez Luna.

All of them congratulated those who participated in this theoretical and practical training programme, which is comprised of a total of 285 training hours. This will give them the knowledge and skills they need to access a profession with high demand and tangible job prospects.

The course is comprised of 185 hours of theoretical learning in the classroom-workshop, where students study content relating to the configuration of installations, network equipment, etc., as well as how to carry out tests, measurements, soldering and installation simulations both inside and outside the classroom.

Once this stage is completed, it is followed by a practical stage, which starts now, consisting of 100 additional hours of work experience with the Magtel installation company in collaboration with the telecommunications operator Orange. This work experience gives course participants the first-hand experience they need to acquire and develop the professional skills required to make a career out of fibre optic installation.

The training is accompanied by complementary efforts aimed at promoting the development of key skills that facilitate labour insertion, such as the Employment Agency of Madrid’s guidance and intermediation services.

This new course strengthens the collaboration between the Employment Agency of Madrid City Council and the Orange Foundation on the development of training activities in the fibre optic sector. The course has achieved high levels of labour insertion and participant satisfaction is high.
