The company\u2019s R&D&I Division held a meeting with a group of 16-year-old girls to help develop the <\/strong>When & Where<\/strong><\/em> application<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Magtel\u2019s R&D&I Division is\nworking with The LPSN Company to improve its When & Where<\/em> App,\ncreated to provide better security for women making their way home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Five sixteen-year-old secondary students\nfrom M\u00f3stoles (Madrid) drove this project, as part of which they have developed\na mobile App alongside two mentors. The App is called When & Where<\/em>. It is an innovative tool that promotes better security for\nwomen \u201cwhen they go out for a run or a walk\u201d, as it reads in the App description.\nThe App detects deviations in route, for example if someone stops or does not\narrive at their destination and alerts a pre-selected emergency contact or the\nemergency services. It also has a panic button that is connected to Spain\u2019s\nemergency services in case there is no response from the user. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company\u2019s R&D&I division\nexplains that, in addition to making an initial assessment of When & Where<\/em>, the Magtel Foundation has also studied the possibility of\nreusing some of the functionalities of the ICT++ Teleassistance App \u2014 developed by\nMagtel\u2019s R&D&I Division\n\u2014 in When & Where. <\/em>The\nMagtel Foundation\u2019s ICT++ teleassistance is a project geared towards assisting dependent,\nelderly individuals through information and communication technologies (ICT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this week\u2019s meeting, various\nrecommendations were made for improving the user interface, and suggestions for\nApp modifications that would optimise its speed in case of emergency were also\nput forward. For example: including a direct button for the emergency service\nnumber so that users do not have to return to the main menu; utilising\nauto-complete when searching for a location a tutorial for those using the app\nfor the first time. The R&D&I division\u2019s telecommunications area also\nresponded to various queries raised by the young women. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Initiative\nawarded by the Magtel Foundation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The LPSN Company, comprising of five secondary\nstudents from the Velazquez Secondary School in Mostoles (Madrid), received an\naward in the category of Social Innovation in the second edition of the Magtel\nFoundation Awards last December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When &\nWhere<\/em> is a free App available for Android\ndevices (and will soon be available for iOS). The App features two different\nmodes that can be used depending on your situation, and you can save your\nfavourite routes to use again whenever you want. It also features a button that\ncontacts emergency services directly in case the user is in danger. The App is\nintuitive, simple, and focuses on providing security for women. However, it is\nalso intended to help children or people with Alzheimer\u2019s, and respects user\nprivacy by making sure they are always in control of their data. The aim is to ensure\nthe App can be used free of charge, and without relying on mobile data usage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is worth highlighting the young age\nof the people behind this project: five 16-year-old secondary students from\nMostoles who, with the help of two mentors, have developed the When & Where<\/em> App to provide women with extra security. The LPSN Company is\ncomprised of Luc\u00eda Adri\u00e1n, Luc\u00eda Fern\u00e1ndez, Paula Fern\u00e1ndez, Sandra Caama\u00f1o and\nNuria Villoria. Their mentors are Cristina M\u00e1rquez and \u00d3scar Amador, PhD\nstudents at the Carlos III University of Madrid.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
